Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • soda - 1/2 tsp
  • buttermilk
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • raisins optional - 1/2 c
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • whole wheat flour - 2 c
  • pecans or walnuts optional - 1/2 c
  • packed brown sugar or honey - 3/4 c

How to make whole wheat bread:

Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add egg and buttermilk. Mix well. Stir in raisins and nuts, if desired. Spoon into a greased and floured loaf pan. Bake at 350° for about 35 to 40 minutes.
