White bread
Ingredients/Components
- cake yeast - 1 item
- warm water 110~ to 120~ - 1/4 c
- sugar - 1 tsp
- salt
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- milk, scalded - 2 c
- flour
How to make white bread:
Add yeast to warm water and sugar (1 teaspoon). Let stand 5 minutes.Add salt, sugar and shortening to scalded milk; cool to lukewarm. Add yeast and 3 cups flour. Beat well. Add enough flour to make a soft dough (not sticky). Place remaining flour on board. Turn out dough on board. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning so dough is greased on top. Cover with a cloth. Let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and let rise again. Divide dough and shape into 2 loaves. Spread tops with melted butter. Let rise until double. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes.
