Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • cornstarch - 1/2 c
  • water - 2 c
  • vinegar - 1/4 tsp
  • cider vinegar - 1/3 c
  • lemon flavoring - 1 tsp
  • egg yolks, beaten - 3 item
  • grated lemon peel optional
  • Bring to a boil and let thicken

How to make vinegar pie:

Blend water with vinegar and cornstarch. Bring to a boil and let thicken. Stir in sugar, butter, flavoring, peel and egg yolks. Pour into a 9-inch baked pastry shell and let cool completely.Topping:3 egg whites1/4 tsp. vinegar1/3 c. sugar Beat egg whites stiff with vinegar. Add sugar to mixture and swirl over pie, sealing meringue well to pastry. Bake in slow oven, 325°, for about 20 minutes or until brown.
