Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • salt - 1/2 c
  • oil - 2 c
  • oregano - 2 Tbsp
  • basil - 2 Tbsp
  • cans tomato paste - 4 oz
  • onions - 3 lb
  • bushel tomatoes - 1/2 item
  • to 4 bell peppers if desired - 3 item

How to make tomato sauce:

Peel tomatoes and lightly chop bell peppers. Mix all ingredients together and cook 1 hour. At end of cooking time, add tomato paste. Stir frequently, bring back to boil. Put in hot jars; seal.

If desired, may process 5 minutes at 10 pounds pressure.

I decreased amount of oil and used only 1/2 cup which makes it lower in fat.
