Sweet and sour red cabbage
Ingredients/Components
- 1/2 tsp salt - 1 item
- C water - 1 item
- Tbsp sugar - 2 item
- Tbsp red wine vinegar - 3 item
- 1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter - 1 item
- 1/2 C chopped onion - 1 item
- 2 lb head red cabbage cored and shredded to make 8 cups - 1 item
- Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, quartered and thinly sliced - 1 item
- tsp each of caraway seeds and pepper - 1/2 item
How to make sweet and sour red cabbage:
Melt butter in Dutch oven. Add onion; saut?© 5 minutes. Add cabbage and apple; saut?© 5 minutes, until cabbage starts to wilt.In bowl, combine the water, 1 1/2 Tbsp of vinegar and the remaining ingredients. Add to cabbage mixture; cover.
Simmer, stirring often, for 1 1/2 hours, until cabbage is very tender. Remove from heat. Add remaining vinegar.
