Sweet and sour pork
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- brown sugar - 1/4 c
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- water - 1/4 c
- vinegar - 1/3 c
- soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
- green pepper - 3/4 c
- pineapple juice - 1 c
- large can pineapple chunks - 1 item
- small can sliced water chestnuts - 1 item
- oil or margarine - 2 Tbsp
- thin sliced onions - 1/4 c
- lean pork, cut in strips*
How to make sweet and sour pork:
Brown pork in oil. Add water, cover and simmer for 1 hour. In a small pot, combine cornstarch, salt, brown sugar, vinegar, pineapple juice (drained from pineapple chunks) and soy sauce. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened. Pour sauce into pot with hot pork. Add green peppers, onion, water chestnuts and pineapple chunks. Cook about 10 more minutes. Serve over white rice.*Chicken can be substituted for pork.
