Sweet and sour pork
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- brown sugar - 1/4 c
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- water - 1/4 c
- vinegar - 1/4 1/3
- soy sauce - 1 tsp
- fat - 2 Tbsp
- thinly sliced onion - 1/4 c
- pineapple juice - 1 c
- thinly sliced bell pepper - 3/4 c
- 2 can chunk pineapple
- or more pork roast, cut in 1-inch pieces
How to make sweet and sour pork:
Brown pork in fat; add water, cover and simmer 1 hour. Combine cornstarch, salt, brown sugar, vinegar, pineapple juice and soy sauce. Cook until slightly thick, stirring constantly. Pour sauce over hot pork. Let stand 10 minutes and add green peppers, onions and pineapple chunks. Cook 2 to 3 minutes longer. Be sure pepper and onion is just tender-crisp.Serve over rice or canned Chinese noodles.
Note: I added more pepper and onion slices and pineapple than this recipe calls for because I like more of them. You need to make several recipes if you are serving a large group.
