Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • garlic powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • slices American cheese - 8 item
  • black pepper - 1 tsp
  • cooked white rice
  • Heinz ketchup - 3 Tbsp
  • ground meat preferably ground chuck - 2 lb
  • very large onion, finely chopped - 1 item
  • to 8 bell peppers I prefer green, but you can use red or yellow peppers - 6 item

How to make stuffed bell peppers:

Preheat oven to 350°. Place meat in a large bowl. Add rice, onions, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and garlic powder. Mix all these ingredients together with your hands.

Cut the tops out of bell peppers in a circular motion with a sharp paring knife. Remove seeds and inner core gently, without breaking the pepper, to form a pepper shell. Stuff the meat and rice mixture into each pepper, filling it to the top.

Place stuffed peppers, standing up, inside a large, deep-sided casserole dish. (You may have to use two, if you dish is not large enough.) Pour the 1/2 cup water in the bottom of the dish.

Place dish in the oven and bake for one hour until the peppers are soft and the meat is thoroughly cooked. Remove casserole dish and place a slice of American cheese on top of each stuffed pepper. Return to oven for one minute so cheese can partially melt. Remove. Serve.
