  • dry split peas - 2 c
  • water - 2 qt
  • diced ham - 1 hock
  • finely chopped celery - 1/2 c
  • thin sliced carrots - 1/2 c
  • finely chopped onion or 1 pkg - 1 tsp

How to make split pea soup:

Simmer in crock-pot for 5 to 8 hours, or boil gently 2 to 3 hours in a large kettle. Take meat off bone; return to soup. Add salt and pepper to taste. Can puree with hand held blender, if desired. Makes 8 servings.
