Spicy rice
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- sliced almonds - 1/2 c
- allspice - 1/8 tsp
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- chopped celery - 1/2 c
- salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
- cooked rice - 3 c
- raisins plump * - 1/2 c
- tart cooking apples, cored, peeled and sliced - 2 item
How to make spicy rice:
In large skillet, cook celery and onion in butter until crisp. Stir in seasonings, rice and raisins. Heat thoroughly. Stir in apples. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand 5 minutes. Sprinkle with almonds.*To plump raisins, put in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes.
