Soft pretzels
Ingredients/Components
- hot water - 1/8 c
- yeast - 1 pkg
- warm water
- brown sugar - 1/3 c
- flour - 5 c
- kosher salt - 1 item
- baking soda - 1 Tbsp
How to make soft pretzels:
Heat oven to 475°. In a large bowl mix water and yeast. Stir in warm water and brown sugar. Slowly add 5 cups of flour, stirring constantly. Stir until mixture is smooth and does not stick to the sides of the bowl.Knead dough on a lightly floured board until it is stretchy and smooth. Grease 1 or 2 cookie sheets very well. Sprinkle each with salt. Pinch off a piece of pretzel dough, about the size of a golf ball. Shape the dough into a pretzel. Fill a pan with water. For each cup of water in the pan, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Bring water to a gentle boil. Use a spatula to lower each pretzel into the pan. Count very slowly to 30. Then place pretzel onto the cookie sheet. Sprinkle top with salt. Bake for 8 minutes or until golden.
