Shrimp gumbo
Ingredients/Components
- bay leaf - 1 item
- can stewed tomatoes - 1 item
- oregano - 1/2 tsp
- basil - 1/8 tsp
- parsley - 1/2 c
- cloves garlic, chopped - 4 item
- can crab meat - 1 item
- medium onions, chopped - 3 item
- green peppers, chopped - 2 item
- okra, sliced - 1 lb
- hot pepper to taste - 1 item
- pieces chopped celery - 3 item
- frozen peeled shrimp - 2 3
- file gumbo - 1/4 c
How to make shrimp gumbo:
Make a roux of 1/2 cup oil and 1/3 cup flour; brown in skillet until dark. Set aside. In a large stew pot, put all vegetables and spices. Add enough water or chicken broth to cover. Cook until tender. Add roux, shrimp and crab meat. Continue cooking over medium heat 10 minutes. Serve with cooked rice. May freeze leftovers.Recipe categories: Main dish, Gumbo, Stew.
