Shoo-fly pie
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 3/4 c
- baking soda
- boiling water - 3/4 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- molasses - 1/2 c
- ground cloves - 1/8 tsp
- ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- ground ginger - 1/8 tsp
- ground nutmeg - 1/8 tsp
- egg yolk, beaten - 1 item
How to make shoo-fly pie:
Mix together first 7 ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture is crumbly; set aside. Obtain 9-inch pie shell; set aside. Combine 4 remaining ingredients. Alternate layers in pie shell of crumbs and liquid mixture, ending with crumbs as top layer. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes.
