Chewy ginger cookies
Ingredients/Components
- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 3/4 c
- molasses - 1/4 c
- ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
- ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
- ground ginger - 1 tsp
- sugar, divided
How to make chewy ginger cookies:
In mixing bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar (mix by hand). Add egg, molasses and vanilla. Mix well. Combine dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Roll into 1-inch balls. Roll in remaining sugar. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes or until brown. Let sit 1 minute on baking sheet after taking out of oven.
