  • sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • molasses - 1/2 c
  • butter or margarine, melted - 1/4 c
  • brown sugar, packed - 1/3 c
  • ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • ground cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • ground ginger - 1 tsp
  • ground nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
  • hot tea - 3/4 c
  • large apples, peeled, cored and sliced - 2 item

How to make upside-down apple gingerbread:

Gingerbread:1/2 c. butter or margarine, melted1/2 c. molasses1/2 c. sugar1/3 c. brown sugar, packed1 egg2 c. flour1 tsp. baking soda1 tsp. ground cinnamon1 tsp. ground ginger1/2 tsp. ground cloves1/2 tsp. salt1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg3/4 c. hot tea Pour butter into a 9-inch square baking pan. Arrange apples over butter and sprinkle with brown sugar; set aside.

For gingerbread, combine butter, molasses, sugars and egg in a mixing bowl; mix well. Combine dry ingredients and add to sugar mixture alternately with hot tea. Mix well. Pour over apples. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes or until the cake tests done. Cool for 5 minutes. Loosen sides and invert onto a serving plate. Serve warm.
