Ingredients/Components

  • water - 2 qt
  • salt and pepper to taste - 1 item
  • medium onion - 1 item
  • celery - 1/4 c
  • dry Northern beans
  • medium diced potato - 1 item
  • or 2 meaty ham hocks - 1 item

How to make senate bean soup:

Soak beans overnight in enough water to cover. Wash and drain beans. To the two quarts of water, add beans and ham hocks. Cover and simmer 2 hours. Add potato, onion and celery. Simmer an hour longer. Remove ham hocks. Cut up meat and return meat to soup. Remove 1 cup of beans with liquid. Puree then return to soup.
