  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 1 c
  • milk - 2/3 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • butter
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • Crisco - 1/2 c
  • or 1/4 c - 2 oz
  • chocolate Quik - 3 Tbsp

How to make red velvet cake:

Icing:1/4 lb. butter1/2 c. Crisco1 c. granulated sugar3 Tbsp. flour2/3 c. milk1 tsp. vanilla Mix and set aside the red food coloring and chocolate Quik.

Cream the shortening and sugar; add eggs and color paste. Beat 10 minutes. Add buttermilk and slowly add flour, then salt and vanilla. Remove mixer from bowl and add by hand, mixing lightly, the vinegar and soda. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

Icing: Cream well the butter, Crisco and granulated sugar. Add flour, one spoon at a time; add milk. Add vanilla and beat 12 minutes.
