Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- coconut - 1 pkg
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1 c
- Crisco - 2/3 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- Swans Down flour
How to make red velvet cake:
Icing:1 1/2 c. milk1/4 c. flour1 c. sugar2/3 c. Crisco2 tsp. vanilla1 pkg. coconut Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla; add one egg at a time. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to mixture. Sift flour and salt; add buttermilk and flour alternately. Combine soda and vinegar. Add to batter; beat well. Bake in 3 greased and floured 9-inch pans at 350° for 30 minutes.Icing: Mix milk and flour; cook until thick; cool. Add sugar, Crisco and vanilla. Mix well. Frost top and sides of each layer and cover with coconut.
