  • sugar
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring

How to make red velvet cake:

Combine soda and buttermilk. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; combine flour and salt. Add paste, then flour alternately with buttermilk, vanilla and vinegar. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.Icing for Red Velvet Cake:3 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. butter1 c. sugar1 tsp. salt Mix together flour and milk. Cook until thick. Let cool completely. Cream butter, sugar and salt until fluffy. Add mixtures and spread on cake.
