- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 c
- soda - 1 Tbsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- confectioners sugar - 1 c
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 1 oz
- Make a paste with coloring and cocoa
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make a paste with coloring and cocoa. Add vinegar and milk. Sift salt, flour and soda. Add to mixture by blending (do not beat). After flour is added, add vanilla. Grease two 9-inch pans. Bake 30 minutes in 350° oven. Cool and split layers, using thread.Frosting:5 Tbsp. flour1 c. milk1 c. confectioners sugar1 tsp. vanilla1 c. butter Cook flour and milk until thick; let cool. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla.
