Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- granulated sugar - 1 c
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- butter - 1 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- Make paste with coloring and cocoa
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Make paste with coloring and cocoa. Add to mixture. Add salt and buttermilk with flour and vanilla. Add soda and vinegar. Do not beat hard. Just blend. Bake 30 minutes at 350°. Cook in 4 (9-inch) pans.Frosting:5 Tbsp. flour1 c. butter1 tsp. vanilla1 c. granulated sugar1 c. milk Use double boiler.Cook flour and milk until thick. Be careful because this thickens quickly. If it lumps, put in mixer and beat out lumps. Cool. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla until fluffy. Add to flour and milk mixture. Don't beat long. Cover each layer between and all over.
