Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped pecans - 1 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 3 Tbsp
  • soda
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • sticks margarine - 2 item
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • flaked coconut - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • margarine - 1 c
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • cake flour
  • Blend in eggs and beat well

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream sugar and butter. Blend in eggs and beat well. Make a paste of the vinegar and cocoa. Add to the creamed mixture. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk. Mix in the vanilla and red food coloring. Bake in 3 greased and floured 9-inch layer pans at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes, or until done.Filling:1 c. milk3 Tbsp. flour2 sticks margarine1 c. sugar1 c. flaked coconut1 c. chopped pecans1 tsp. vanilla Cook milk and flour together until it thickens. Place in refrigerator to cool. Beat sugar and margarine until creamy and stir in cooled custard mixture. Beat on high speed until like whipped cream. Add coconut, nuts and vanilla. Spread between layers and on top and sides of cake.
