- vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 tsp
- box powdered sugar - 1 item
- Wesson oil
- Icing:1 stick butter
- bottle red food coloring - 1 item
- bag walnuts - 1/2 item
- cake flour unsifted
How to make red velvet cake:
Icing:1 stick butter1 (8 oz.) cream cheese1 box powdered sugar1/2 bag walnuts Cake: Preheat oven to 350°. Combine each ingredient as listed, using a mixer at medium speed. If the first 3 ingredients are too thick, add 1/2 of the oil, continue adding the other ingredients. Bake for 45 minutes. Use a toothpick to test the doneness of the cake. If the toothpick comes out with batter on it, cook 15 minutes longer and test again.Icing: Mix all ingredients, except the walnuts, until smooth. Cover cake with icing. Sprinkle cake with walnuts, as desired.
