Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 2 c
  • margarine - 2 tsp
  • can tomato sauce - 1 oz
  • grated cheese - 1/2 c
  • ground beef - 3/4 lb
  • basil - 1/2 tsp
  • small onion, chopped - 1 item
  • Minute rice
  • medium green peppers - 3 item

How to make no bake stuffed peppers:

Cut peppers in half lengthwise. Remove and discard stem ends and seeds. Parboil in boiling salted water for 10 minutes. Drain. Add sugar and basil to tomato sauce; set aside. Brown ground beef and onion well in a large skillet. Stir in 1/2 cup of tomato mixture, 1/4 cup of the rice and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in cheese. Spoon meat mixture into peppers; place in skillet. Pour rest of sauce around peppers; cover and simmer 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring water, 1/2 teaspoon salt and margarine to a boil. Stir in remaining rice. Cover; remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Serve peppers with the rice; top with the sauce and more cheese if you want. Makes 6 servings.
