Moussaka
Ingredients/Components
- sour cream - 1 pt
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 1/2 c
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- grated Parmesan cheese - 1 Tbsp
- onion soup mix - 1 pkg
- tomato sauce - 2 cans
- lean ground chuck - 1 lb
- eggplant, pared and cut into 1/2-inch slices
How to make moussaka:
California Dip: Mix onion soup with sour cream; stir 1 tablespoon flour and beaten eggs into this mixture until smooth; set aside.Lightly dust eggplant slices with flour. Melt butter in large skillet and brown eggplant well on both sides; set aside.
Brown meat in same skillet; stir in tomato sauce and salt. Simmer one to two minutes. Arrange 1/2 of eggplant slices in bottom of 2-quart casserole. Top with half of meat mixture, then half of California Dip. Continue layers as before, ending with cheese*.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes in 375° oven until top is golden brown.
*Mixture can be layered, one third, one third and one third, depending on size of casserole.
