- egg, beaten - 1 item
- pepper - 2 tsp
- ground beef - 2 lb
- bread crumbs - 3/4 c
- cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
- Italian seasoning - 3 Tbsp
- olive oil - 2 Tbsp
- Mozzarella cheese - 1 lb
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- cloves diced garlic - 3 item
- cans peeled tomatoes - 2 oz
- Sauce:2 large onions, chopped
How to make meatballs and sauce:
Sauce:2 large onions, chopped3 tsp. salt3 cloves diced garlic2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce2 (28 oz.) cans peeled tomatoes3 Tbsp. Italian seasoning1/4 c. olive oil2 tsp. pepper Meatballs: Saute onion in oil. Combine beef, salt, pepper and bread crumbs. Mix well. Add onion and egg. Cut cheese into 1/2-inch x 1/2-inch squares. Form meatballs and stuff with cheese. Seal meat around the cheese. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.Sauce: Saute onions and garlic in oil in large cooking pot. Puree tomatoes in blender and add to onion/garlic mixture. Add tomato sauce and spices. Cook over medium heat for 4 hours. Add cooked meatballs during the last hour. Serve with vermicelli and hot garlic bread.
