  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 3 c
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • cooking oil - 1 c
  • orange juice - 1/3 c
  • unbeaten eggs - 4 item
  • large apples, sliced 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick - 6 item

How to make jewish apple cake:

Slice apples 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick. Mix with cinnamon and 3 tablespoons sugar in a large bowl and set aside. Mix eggs, oil and 2 1/2 cups of sugar until smooth. Add alternately to batter the dry ingredients (flour, salt and baking powder) and wet ingredients (orange juice, vanilla), starting and ending with dry ingredients.

Grease and flour 1 (10-inch) tube pan and cover bottom of pan with a layer of batter using a large spoon and placing dollops of batter and smoothing with bottom of spoon. Carefully place a layer of apples, a few at a time, on top of batter. Alternately layer batter and apples, ending with apples on top. Bake at 350° in oven for 2 hours. This cake is delicious. The layering of the batter by dollops and a thin layer of apples is more important than the preparation of the batter. It is a delicious cake.
