Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • egg, beaten - 1 item
  • pepper - 1/8 tsp
  • ground beef
  • oregano - 1/2 tsp
  • cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
  • shredded Mozzarella cheese - 2 c
  • cracker crumbs - 1/2 c
  • minced onion - 1/2 c

How to make italian meat loaf:

Preheat oven to 350°. Combine egg, cracker crumbs, onion, 1/3 cup tomato sauce, oregano, salt and pepper; mix well and add to meat. Mix thoroughly; shape into flat rectangle, about 10 x 12 inches, on waxed paper. Sprinkle cheese evenly over meat. Roll up like a jelly roll; press ends of roll to seal. Place on rack in shallow baking dish. Bake for 1 hour. Drain off excess fat. Pour on remaining tomato sauce; bake an additional 15 minutes. Serves 4 to 6.
