Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 4 c
- soda - 1 tsp
- large eggs - 2 item
- buttermilk or sour milk
- caraway seed - 1 tsp
- box raisins - 1/2 item
- Sift together dry ingredients
How to make irish soda bread:
Soak raisins 10 minutes in hot water, then drain dry. Sift together dry ingredients. Add caraway seed and raisins. Stir in eggs and buttermilk, gradually. Dough will be moist. No need to knead.Pour into buttered 9-inch pan (round). Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 300° and bake 15 minutes longer. Turn off heat and leave bread in oven 20 minutes. Remove to rack. Cool. Glaze.Glaze:2 Tbsp. warm milk2 tsp. sugar Combine. Spread on bread with a pastry brush.
