Buttermilk doughnuts
Ingredients/Components
- fresh eggs - 2 item
- sugar - 1 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 3/4 c
- flour - 3 to
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- ginger - 1/4 tsp
How to make buttermilk doughnuts:
Beat together eggs, sugar, shortening and buttermilk. Set aside. Combine the following dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. Combine wet and dry ingredients; mix real good. Batter should be sticky consistency. Refrigerate to make batter easier to work with.Flour a board and work dough with flour so that it can be easily rolled out. Roll dough to about 1/2-inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter. Heat oil (lard works best) to 370°. Drop doughnuts and fry to golden brown. Drain on paper.
Makes about 15 doughnuts and holes. Very good flavor.
