  • sugar - 2 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • warm water - 1/4 c
  • dry yeast - 1 pkg

How to make heavenly biscuits:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine dry ingredients in bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add buttermilk and yeast. Mix well. Refrigerate if desired. Knead lightly on floured surface. Roll dough to 1 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter. Place in greased 7 X 7 inch pan. Let rise slightly. Bake at 400 degrees until brown, about 12 - 15 minutes. Yield 1 dozen.
