Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 c
  • water - 2 c
  • vegetable oil - 3 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1 Tbsp
  • carrots - 4 item
  • parsley - 1 Tbsp
  • beef bouillon cubes - 2 item
  • large onion, quartered - 1 item
  • celery sticks, chopped - 3 item
  • or 4 potatoes - 3 item
  • Lipton mushroom soup mix - 1 pkg
  • Guinness - 12 oz

How to make guinness stew:

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour with pepper and salt; mix. Take the cubed beef and add to the flour. Cover the beef thoroughly with the flour. Place the vegetable oil in a frying pan; heat on medium. Cook the floured beef in the frying pan until all sides are browned.

Next, in a large pot, add the water with the beef bouillon cubes and parsley and heat on low. Once the bouillon cubes dissolve, then add the browned beef, the Guinness and stir. Add the celery, onion, carrots and the package of soup mix. Heat for 2 hours, covered, stirring occasionally. After 2 hours, add the potatoes and stir. The potatoes take about 1 hour to cook.

If you like a thick stew, add a tablespoon or 2 of flour and mix with 1/4 cup water; stir, then add to the stew. This will thicken the stew. Serve with cornbread.
