  • Add melted chocolate squares and blend
  • Combine sugar, flour and egg; blend in until smooth

How to make fudge cake:

Cream margarine, sugar, vanilla and eggs until light and fluffy. Add melted chocolate squares and blend. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Alternate with water. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes in three 8-inch greased and floured pans.Date Nut Cream Filling:1 c. milk1/2 c. chopped dates1/4 c. sugar1 Tbsp. flour1 beaten egg1/2 c. chopped nuts1 tsp. vanilla Heat milk and dates in top of double boiler. Combine sugar, flour and egg; blend in until smooth. Add slowly to hot milk. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Cool. Add nuts and vanilla.Fudge Cake Icing:2 c. sugar1 c. whipping cream2 (1 oz.) unsweetened chocolate squares Combine ingredients in heavy saucepan. Boil over high heat for 3 minutes without stirring. Reduce heat and cook until reaches soft ball stage (238° on candy thermometer). Cool to lukewarm. Beat until creamy and of spreading consistency. A small amount of milk or cream may be added if thinning is necessary. Spread filling between layers. Ice top and sides with icing. Freezes well.
