Ingredients/Components

  • butter, softened - 1 Tbsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • chopped onion - 3/4 c
  • soft bread crumbs - 1/2 c
  • medium tomatoes, sliced - 2 item
  • bacon drippings - 2 Tbsp
  • chopped cooked ham - 2 c
  • cooked green beans
  • diced potatoes, cooked - 1 c
  • sliced cooked carrots

How to make fresh vegetable casserole:

Combine butter and flour in small bowl to make smooth paste. Add to hot milk in saucepan, gradually stirring constantly. Add the next 7 ingredients; mix well. Pour into buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole. Arrange tomato slices over top. Brown bread crumbs in bacon drippings in a skillet. Sprinkle over tomatoes. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
