French onion soup
Ingredients/Components
- beef bouillon cubes - 6 item
- water - 6 c
- medium thinly sliced onions - 6 item
- stick margarine - 3/4 item
- parsley - 1 tsp
- basil - 1/2 tsp
- oregano - 1/2 tsp
- thyme - 1/2 tsp
- bay leaves - 2 item
- black pepper - 1/4 tsp
- garlic - 1/2 tsp
- Mozzarella - 12 oz
- slices French bread 3/4-inch thick - 6 item
How to make french onion soup:
In a Dutch oven, saute onions in margarine until they are translucent but not yet beginning to brown. Add water and all spices. Simmer at least 30 minutes. Under the broiler, toast the bread on both sides. Put log of cheese in the bottom of each bowl. Ladle the soup into the bowls. Float 1 piece of bread in each bowl. Garnish each piece of toast with 1 ounce of cheese. Serve immediately. Serves 6.Recipe categories: Soups & stews, Meat, French.
