Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 3/4 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • large Spanish or Bermuda onions - 3 item

How to make french-fried onion rings:

Peel onions under running water (to prevent eyes from watering). Cut into 1/4-inch slices and separate into rings. Heat vegetable oil (at least 1-inch) in deep fryer or 3-quart saucepan to 375°. Beat egg and add remaining ingredients (by hand) until smooth. Dip each ring into batter, letting excess drip back into bowl. Fry a few rings at a time in hot oil, turning once, until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Drain and serve.

Note: To keep rings warm, place in 300° oven until ready to serve.
