  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar - 2 c
  • water - 1/2 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • nuts - 1/2 c
  • sifted flour
  • Stir in water and vanilla

How to make date filled cookies:

Mix well shortening, sugar and eggs. Stir in water and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients and stir. Drop with teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheet. Place 1/2 teaspoon of date filling on dough and cover with 1/2 teaspoon of dough. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400°.Filling:2 c. dates, cut small3/4 c. sugar3/4 c. water1/2 c. nuts Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Stir and let cool. Makes 5 or 6 dozen cookies.
