Crumb coffee cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- butter - 1/2 c
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- nuts - 1/2 c
- ginger - 1/2 tsp
- raisins - 1/2 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- sour milk or buttermilk - 1/2 c
How to make crumb coffee cake:
Sift together sugar, flour and spices. Work in shortening as in making baking powder biscuits. Set aside 1 cupful. Mix together beaten egg and milk, then add soda and baking powder. Add to flour mixture and mix well. Add raisins and nuts.Grease an 8 x 8-inch cake pan and spread 1/2 of the reserved crumbs in bottom of pan. Pour the batter in and spread evenly. Sprinkle remaining crumbs over the top. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Let cool in pan.
