Ingredients/Components

  • half and half - 1 c
  • milk - 1 c
  • butter or margarine - 6 Tbsp
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • flour - 3 Tbsp
  • fresh mushrooms - 1 lb
  • sherry - 2 Tbsp
  • mushroom stock - 1/2 c

How to make creamed mushrooms:

Wash, stem and slice mushrooms. Slice stems and boil in 3/4 cup water for 8 to 10 minutes for mushroom stock. Saute the sliced mushroom caps in 3 tablespoons butter or margarine. Melt remaining butter or margarine; blend in flour and salt and slowly stir in the milk, half and half and mushroom stock. Boil until thick, stirring constantly. Add sauteed mushrooms and sherry.

Note: I omit the salt and sherry. I also use the sliced, cooked mushroom stems with the sliced mushrooms.
