Chow-chow relish
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- water - 9 c
- vinegar - 4 c
- chopped onions - 2 c
- celery seed - 2 Tbsp
- chopped cabbage - 4 c
- mustard seed - 3 Tbsp
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- chopped green tomatoes
- pickling salt - 1/2 c
- pickling spice - 1 Tbsp
- sweet red pepper, chopped and seeds removed - 2 c
How to make chow-chow relish:
Mix vegetables together. Dissolve salt in 8 cups of water and pour over vegetables. Let stand in cool place overnight, then drain. If too salty, rinse and drain again. Tie spices in cheesecloth. Add to vinegar and 1 cup water. Let simmer 5 minutes.Recipe categories: For large groups, Condiments, etc., 3 steps or less.
