Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 6 c
  • salt - 1/2 c
  • water - 2 c
  • vinegar - 4 c
  • celery seed - 1 Tbsp
  • mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
  • turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • green tomatoes - 10 item
  • red bell peppers - 6 item
  • green bell peppers - 12 item
  • ground onions - 4 c

How to make chow-chow:

Grind vegetables. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup salt. Let stand overnight; rinse and drain. Combine remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling; simmer for 3 minutes. Seal in hot jars.
