Ingredients/Components

  • ground ginger - 1 Tbsp
  • large onions, chopped - 12 item
  • celery seed - 3 Tbsp
  • chopped cabbage - 1 gal
  • turmeric - 1 Tbsp
  • chopped green tomatoes - 1/2 gal
  • large green peppers, chopped - 12 item
  • ground mustard - 1/2 c
  • large red peppers, chopped - 12 item

How to make chow chow:

Cover chopped ingredients with 10% brine for 12 to 24 hours. Drain; heat spices to boiling point. Mix vegetables; stir well and let stand overnight. Stir in morning. Pack in sterilized jars.

Note: 10% brine = 1 pound salt in 9 pints water.
