Ingredients/Components
- ground ginger - 1 Tbsp
- large onions, chopped - 12 item
- celery seed - 3 Tbsp
- chopped cabbage - 1 gal
- turmeric - 1 Tbsp
- chopped green tomatoes - 1/2 gal
- large green peppers, chopped - 12 item
- ground mustard - 1/2 c
- large red peppers, chopped - 12 item
How to make chow chow:
Cover chopped ingredients with 10% brine for 12 to 24 hours. Drain; heat spices to boiling point. Mix vegetables; stir well and let stand overnight. Stir in morning. Pack in sterilized jars.Note: 10% brine = 1 pound salt in 9 pints water.
