Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 2 c
- salt - 1 item
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- eggs, separated - 3 item
- water - 1 Tbsp
- cocoa - 4 Tbsp
- egg whites - 3 item
- plain flour - 1 Tbsp
- water, boiling
- baked pie shell - 1 item
How to make chocolate pie:
Meringue:1/2 c. water, boiling1 Tbsp. cornstarch1 Tbsp. water3 egg whites6 Tbsp. sugar Heat milk in saucepan. Mix sugar, salt, cornstarch, flour and cocoa. Add milk to dry mixture; mix well. Boil 1 minute over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir half of mixture into beaten egg yolks, then blend into hot mixture in pan. Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, blend in butter and vanilla. Cool. Pour into baked pie shell. Top with meringue. Bake in 400° oven for 8 to 10 minutes.Meringue: Dissolve cornstarch in 1 tablespoon water. Add to boiling water, making a paste; let paste cool. Beat egg whites until stiff. Add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time while continuing to beat, then add cornstarch paste 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until peaks form.
