  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 6 Tbsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • water - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • stick butter - 1 item
  • box confectioners sugar - 1 item
  • Frosting:1 stick butter

How to make chocolate cake:

Frosting:1 stick butter3 1/2 level Tbsp. cocoa6 Tbsp. milk1 box confectioners sugar1 tsp. vanilla Bring to boil the butter, shortening, cocoa and water. Mix sugar and flour. Pour boiling mixture over the flour and sugar; beat until smooth. Add eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla. Mix well. Batter will be thin. Bake in 12 x 12 x 2-inch pan for 30 minutes at 350°. Frost with chocolate frosting while cake is still hot in pan.

Frosting: Bring to boil butter, cocoa and milk. Add confectioners sugar and vanilla. Beat until creamy. Add chopped pecans, if preferred. Spread on cake while cake is still hot.
