Chesapeake bay crab cakes
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- chopped onion - 2 Tbsp
- dash of cayenne pepper - 1 item
- dry bread crumbs - 1/2 c
- dash of black pepper - 1 item
- powdered mustard - 1/2 tsp
- butter or other fat, melted - 2 Tbsp
- blue crab meat - 1 lb
How to make chesapeake bay crab cakes:
Remove any shell or cartilage from crab meat. Cook onion in butter until tender. Combine all ingredients, except crumbs. Shape into six cakes and roll in crumbs. Place cakes in a heavy frying pan containing about 1/8-inch of fat, hot but not smoking. Fry at moderate heat. When cakes are brown on one side, turn carefully and brown the other side. Cooking time is approximately 5 to 8 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Serves 6.Recipe categories: Appetizers, Main dish, Crab.
