sugar - 1 c
shortening - 3/4 c
eggs - 2 item
milk - 2 Tbsp
vanilla - 1 Tbsp
flour - 2-1/4 c
baking powder - 1 tsp
salt - 1/2 tsp
soda - 1/2 tsp
pecans, chopped - 1 c
dates, chopped - 1 c
maraschino cherries, chopped - 1/3 c
coarsely crushed cornflakes - 2-1/2 c
maraschino cherries, quartered - 15 item

How to make cherry winks:

Preheat oven to 375°. Grease cookie sheets. In large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, eggs, milk and vanilla, blend well. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, soda, pecans, dates and 1/3 cup of cherries, mix well. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Drop by teaspoonfuls into crushed cereal, coat evenly. Form into one inch balls, place on cookie sheets, top with piece of cherry and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 60 cookies.
