Cheddar chowder
Ingredients/Components
- milk - 2 c
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt
- flour - 1/4 c
- boiling water - 2 c
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- shredded sharp Cheddar cheese - 2 c
- onions, chopped - 1/4 c
- carrots, sliced - 1/2 c
- potatoes, diced - 2 c
- cubed ham optional - 1 c
How to make cheddar chowder:
In large saucepan, add water to potatoes, onions, salt, pepper and carrots. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes; do not drain. In separate pan, melt butter, then gradually stir in flour until smooth. Add milk slowly, stirring constantly and maintaining medium heat. Add cheese; stir until melted. Stir cheese sauce and ham into undrained vegetable mixture. Heat for 20 minutes; do not boil.
