Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2 c
  • butter or margarine - 1/4 c
  • salt
  • flour - 1/4 c
  • boiling water - 2 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • shredded sharp Cheddar cheese - 2 c
  • onions, chopped - 1/4 c
  • carrots, sliced - 1/2 c
  • potatoes, diced - 2 c
  • cubed ham optional - 1 c

How to make cheddar chowder:

In large saucepan, add water to potatoes, onions, salt, pepper and carrots. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes; do not drain. In separate pan, melt butter, then gradually stir in flour until smooth. Add milk slowly, stirring constantly and maintaining medium heat. Add cheese; stir until melted. Stir cheese sauce and ham into undrained vegetable mixture. Heat for 20 minutes; do not boil. This is good served with corn muffins. Yields 4 to 6 servings.
