Buttermilk doughnuts
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- eggs - 2 item
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- buttermilk - 3/4 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour
How to make buttermilk doughnuts:
Heat 3 to 4-inches of oil to 375° in deep fryer. Measure 1 1/2 cups flour and the remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in remaining flour. Turn dough onto well floured surface. Roll around lightly to coat with flour. Gently roll dough 3/8-inch thick. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. With wide spatula, slide doughnuts into hot fryer. Turn doughnuts as they rise to surface. Fry 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown. Carefully remove from oil. Drain. Serve plain, sugared or frosted.
