Buttermilk biscuits
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 tsp
- soda - 1/4 tsp
- buttermilk - 3/4 c
- baking powder
- minus 2 Tbsp - 2 c
- shortening I use Crisco butter flavor - 1/3 c
How to make buttermilk biscuits:
Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk all at once, stir until dough follows fork around bowl.Turn dough out on a lightly floured board; knead 8 to 10 times. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut with 2 1/4-inch round cutter. Bake at 450° for 15 minutes. If buttermilk is not on hand, sour your milk with a little vinegar on lemon juice. I generally double the recipe.
