  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 2 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • plus 4 Tbsp - 2 c
  • soft shortening I use 1/2 c - 1 c

How to make butter cookies:

Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla and shortening. Blend all ingredients and mix well. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.

(This recipe is a basic recipe for all types of cookies. I add chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts for Toll House cookies.)
